Ladbrokes Launch Pub Poker

Damien Oborne

Jason Flemyng and Dexter Fletcher are both well known as high profile stars of the popular movie "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". They are now hoping to earn a name as winners of Ladbrokes five week long online pub poker tournament that begins on Sunday the 28th of October.

Flemyng and Fletcher will be representing "The Duchess", a pub part owned by Flemyng. The two stars will lead a group of players in the Sunday tournaments. They will be attempting to win one of twenty seats available for the live Ladbrokes Paddington Casino Final on December the 9th. There will be cash won, as well as a poker cruise and an all expenses paid celebrity poker party and the winning pub. Many more prizes will be won, making this event a fun poker tournament for all involved.

To take part in the tournament you will need to get your local landlord to sign up. As an added bonus, if you can get a minimum of fifteen poker players keen to play, Ladbrokes will send you all you need to run your own tournament at the pub. The free poker kit will include tables, chips and cards.

Jason part owner of south London pub, The Duchess says, "I love playing poker and it's about time I can play with my mates in my pub. The Ladbrokes Pub Poker Championship gives people the opportunity to represent their pub and I can't wait to get involved with Dexter and the boys. Enter the tournament and take on The Duchess if you think you're up to it."

Samantha Alleyne, PR Manager of Ladbrokes Poker commented. "The Duchess was one of the first pubs to sign-up to play. We're really pleased to have them on board as I think they will really add to the Sunday game. To play costs a fiver and the prizes on offer make it well worth the small buy-in. Over 400 pubs have signed up so far to play and 15 of those, via the points they accumulate, will be brought to London to play in the final. A further five players will be wild-carded in to make up a 20 MTT."

This tournament will be a lot of fun for all involved. Which pub will earn bragging rights and the pub party of a lifetime? We will find out on December the 9th. One thing is for sure, Flemyng and Fletcher will be taking time out of their busy acting schedule to try and win it for "The Duchess".

APPT, EPT and WPT Events to Start this Week

Barry Carter

It's going to be a busy week for our good friends at Pokerstars. Fresh from their hugely successful endorsement of the Hold'em 100 yesterday they have the job of hosting two major international poker tournaments this week; The EPT London and the APPT Seoul. Pokerstars have recently added a number of stars to their ever growing roster, including Dario Minieri, Hevad Khan and of course Daniel Negreanu. We are expecting to see the members of Team Pokerstars to be split up evenly to represent at each event accordingly.

Daniel Negreanu, Katja Thater and Hevad Khan are already confirmed for the EPT London, starting tomorrow at the Victoria Casino. Elsewhere the second stop on the groundbreaking Asian Pacific Poker Tour starts at the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill in Seoul on Friday, and all the buzz is about WSOP Champion Joe Hachem confirming his attendance.

The EPT London is already well under way with a series of side events and there has already been a very juicy Seven Card Stud event which saw WSOPE HORSE champion Thomas Bihl take home the trophy, with Paul Parker, Michael Greco and Willie Tann all joining him at the Final Table. The £5,400 main event is capped at 500 players and we are expecting a sell out for the event which Vicky Coren emerged the champion last year.

The APPT event is comparably a much lower stakes affair at $2,500 entry, with a great deal of the expected 250 entrants being online qualifiers. The inaugural event in Manilla was a hugely successful affair with a final table of relatively inexperienced (to live poker) players fighting it out for the $600,000 prize pool.

If that wasn't enough, the World Poker Tour are in business this week with their first ever WPT Turks and Caicos Island event. It will be fascinating to find out just how successful this will be on the Caribbean Island. Their last event at the Borgata had 560 entrants despite running almost alongside the WSOPE; now with the EPT and APPT coinciding and the fact that it is outside of Vegas, who knows how big this one will be?
